God’s word is extremely sharp it pierces, refines and transforms every part of you.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” — John 1:1,4

Based on my previous blogs, we’ve come to understand that “the Word” which existed in the beginning is both life and light. What we believe in our hearts will eventually come out through our words. If we’re not careful, that same tongue can speak life or death it can bless or curse. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

Our words have the power to build up or tear down not just in relationships, but also in our circumstances and even in our physical bodies.The Word is Living, Active, and Full of Power “For the word of God is living, active, and full of power…” Hebrews 4:12

We’ve already established that the Word is life, it is light, and it is powerful. Because of that, we must be mindful of how we think and speak especially when we speak carelessly. “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36–37

The Word of God created everything we see on earth today and has existed since the beginning of time. It is powerful on its own, living and active whether we recognize it or not. God doesn’t need us to make His Word powerful. However, if we don’t keep it close through meditation, reflection, and application, that power can remain dormant in our lives. “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11

When God sees you diligently using His Word, applying it to your life, and seeking Him through it, He increases the power within you. That’s when the Word becomes truly alive and active in your personal walk, not by reading it once or twice or rushing through Scripture just to say you’ve done it, but by engaging with it deeply, consistently, and with an open heart. “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night… then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8

The Word in Action

A powerful example of the Word in action is when Jesus cursed the fig tree (Mark 11:12–14, 20–21). At first glance, it might seem harsh, but the tree, though full of leaves, bore no fruit. Jesus wasn’t acting out of malice or anger; He was revealing a spiritual truth. He saw what couldn’t be seen on the surface , the tree was barren. His words simply exposed and confirmed its lack of life. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” — Matthew 7:19–20

In the same way, our words carry the ability to reveal, shape, and impact what is both seen and unseen.Don’t you realize? When you speak positively and apply the Word of God to your life, you begin to feel better. When you complain less and instead replace those complaints with Scripture, your mindset and your heart begin to shift. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble… think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 If you choose to speak life declaring truth, hope, and promise you start to believe what you’re saying. “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” 2 Corinthians 4:13 And when you believe it, you begin to live it. Saying something long enough allows it to take root in your spirit. Eventually, what you say will begin to manifest because “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 “The Word Goes Deeper Than You Think. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…” Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is not just a book of wisdom or ancient history, it is living, breathing, and powerful. It is at work every day, not just on Sundays or in quiet moments. The Word of God is actively transforming, refining, healing, and renewing us.Why? Because we are constantly at war. Our flesh battles against our spirit, craving comfort, pride, and control. But the Word cuts through all of that. It goes deeper than behavior it reaches into the heart, revealing things hidden even from ourselves. “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things…” Jeremiah 17:9

The Word uncovers scars, traumas, thoughts, and feelings we may have buried or forgotten. It shines a light into the places we try to hide.God’s Word not only heals; it confronts. It convicts us of sin and reminds us of what we still need to repent for. That’s why Hebrews speaks of it dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it pierces to the core of our being.

It might say:“You’re not fully walking in righteousness yet not until you forgive that person. Not until you let go. Not until you forgive yourself.”

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” Psalm 139:23

The Word is a mirror (James 1:23–25). When we look into it, we should begin to see the reflection of Christ. If we don’t, then there is still work to be done. And even when we do, we must stay close to the Word, because forgetfulness is dangerous.

Temptation waits at every corner, and Satan is looking for even the smallest opening, a legal right to step into your life. “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4:27“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Don’t make it easy for him. Stay armed. Let the Word constantly remind him where he belongs, beneath your feet. Let your declaration of God’s promises be a weapon. Speak life, speak faith, speak the truth.

“Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7

There is no such thing as casual engagement with the Word of God. When you read it with an open heart, you’re not just reading a book you’re encountering the breath of God Himself. His Word doesn’t simply inform; it transforms.If you’ve been speaking words that don’t align with truth, if you’ve been thinking thoughts that contradict what God has promised, today is the day to reset. Go back to the Word. Let it wash over you. Let it correct, cleanse, and renew.Let the Word dwell in you richly and watch everything change.-

Prayer:

Father,I thank You for the power of Your Word. It is alive, active, and sharp able to reach parts of me that even I cannot fully understand. Forgive me for every careless word I’ve spoken, every complaint I’ve entertained, and every lie I’ve believed. I surrender my thoughts, my speech, and my heart to Your truth.Lord, let Your Word take root in me. Reveal what needs healing, correct what needs refining, and strengthen what needs building. Help me to meditate on it day and night, to speak it boldly, and to live it faithfully.When I’m tempted to speak doubt, remind me of Your promises. When I want to give up, remind me of Your faithfulness. And when the enemy comes to accuse, remind me to use the sword of the Spirit, Your living Word, to silence him.Make me a vessel of truth. Let my life, my words, and my actions reflect the glory of Jesus the Word made flesh.In His name, I pray. Amen.

Why is it important that we should believe God and not just in his existence?

When I say believe God, not just that He exists, I mean BELIEVE God for who He is and what He represents. And that is His Word, which is HIM. According to John 1:1-2, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This clearly shows us that He is the Word. The Word was with Him from the beginning. The Word was in Him, is Him, and is with Him. (Father, Son and Holy Spirit)

That same Word was used to create life. The Word is life itself, as seen in John 1:3-4: “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Now, go back and read Genesis 1:1-31 (The History of Creation) you’ll see that when we speak and use God’s Word, believing that it is both light and life, we are speaking that same creative, life-giving force into our own lives.

But it doesn’t just stop there.

Do you realize that we have that Word in us? Yes, the same Word God used when He said, “Let there be,” and it was, is now within us. When we believe, truly believe, it becomes clear why God instructs us not to worry, not to fear, but to trust Him, believe Him, and especially to have faith. Because as His children, we share in that same power. John 1:12-13 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

In Genesis, Jesus’ name was not yet revealed, but He was present. Later, we see in John 1:14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory…” Jesus is that Word, the Messiah, the light of men. So when God said, “Let there be light,” those were the very first words God spoke in Genesis 1:3, and instantly, there was light. But have you ever asked yourself why light came first? God didn’t need light to create the world. He had all power, all wisdom. He could’ve created in any order He wanted. Yet, He chose to begin with light. That wasn’t a coincidence. It was intentional.

Light does more than just shine it reveals. It allows you to see what was once hidden. Without light, you can’t move forward. You can’t take the next step. So God, in His wisdom, introduced light first not just for creation, but to teach us something deeply spiritual: without His light, we are walking blind.

Now, fast forward to John 1:5:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
This phrase can be understood both literally and symbolically. Darkness, by nature, tries to cover, to hide, to suffocate. But when the true Light, God’s Word, Jesus enters, darkness has no power to stop it. It cannot overcome it. No matter how thick the darkness, light will always pierce through.

When God introduced light, He was doing more than setting the stage for creation. He was sending a message: where there is light, darkness cannot grow. The light exposes. The light brings clarity. The light brings life.

So think about this every time God speaks, it brings light. When you read His Word, it brings vision. It uncovers what’s been hidden, it brings understanding where there was confusion, peace where there was fear, and direction where there was doubt.

Light reveals. Darkness conceals. Light brings truth. Darkness hides deception. And when God’s light enters your life, what once seemed impossible or hidden becomes clear.

So as long as you walk in that light in His Word, in His truth, the darkness can’t thrive around you. That’s why Jesus said in John 8:12,
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This is why Proverbs 18:21 warns: “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Because when we speak, we utilize that same power to create or destroy.

“Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

This verse isn’t just encouragement, it’s a declaration of identity and authority. It means that the Word Jesus Himself lives in us because of His ultimate sacrifice. The ruler of this world, Satan, may still roam, but his defeat is already sealed. We don’t fight for victory, we fight from victory. Christ secured our freedom and dominion on the cross. That was His purpose.

So when Scripture says we’re greater than the one in the world, it’s not because of anything we’ve done it’s because of who lives in us.

And once that truth becomes more than just a memory verse, once you fully grasp it, you’ll begin to walk in the power you already possess. You’ll approach every Bible verse with fresh eyes, reverence, and expectation, because you’ll realize: this is not just a book, it’s your foundation, your weapon, your life.

To merely believe God exists isn’t enough. Even demons believe that. You must believe His Word.
And to believe His Word, you have to know it.
To know it, you have to know Him.
And to know Him you must spend time in what He has spoken: His Word.

DEVOTIONAL:

Take a moment today to reflect on the power of the Word living inside you. Meditate on John 1:1-5 and let it remind you that Jesus is not just a figure of history. He is the eternal Word, the Light of men, the very force of life itself. As a child of God, that same light now dwells within you. Speak with purpose. Walk in light. Live by the Word.
